Spatial Planning Board

The Spatial Planning Board will aim to make sure there is a strong spatial el;ement to the Integrated Regional Strategy and that the region's planning system delivers sustainable economic growth.

What will the Board do?

The Spatial Planning Board will act as the interface between the Regional Spatial Strategy (which will form the spatial aspect of the Integrated Regional Strategy in future), and the local authority run planning system. The Board will help develop local authority Development Plan Documents that are the local spatial expression of the Regional Spatial Strategy.

A statutory consultee on planning applications is required to respond to local authorities within 21 days, or a deadline agreed in writing with the local authority. Given these timescales, the Spatial Planning Board officers will respond to consultations on applications unless it is a high profile application, in which case officers will agree a response with the Chair and Deputy Chair of the Board.

Who's involved?

The Chair of the Spatial Planning Board will be nominated by Local Government Yorkshire and Humber, the Deputy Chair by Yorkshire Forward. Other members will include respresentatives from local authorities, the environment, business and third sectors.

For more information about the Spatial Planning Board or its membership, contact us.

Papers for meetings of the Spatial Planning Board are available on this website in the Events and Meetings section.
