LGYH Full Membership

LGYH is made up of the 22 Leaders of the local authorities (or their representatives) and the four fire authority chairs.  Their role is to promote effective working between local authorities, fire authorities and their employees (including regulating relations between employers and employees); and to ensure wider local authority representation, collaboration and co-operation on a regional basis.   The body meets three times a year.

LGYH Executive Board

The role of the Executive Board is:

  • To establish and develop strategic objectives for local authorities

  • To provide political leadership in the region

  • To conduct the business of LGYH, appointing representatives to outside bodies or representing the views of LGYH on other bodies; agreeing such Standing Orders, Rules and operating procedures as may be appropriate for LGYH; leading, managing and controlling the work of Committees, Boards and Panels.

  • In particular, each member is responsible for:
    • discussing issues pertinent to their sub-region/organisation at meetings and reporting the outcome of discussions back to their sub-regions/organisations
    • sharing learning and leading on relevant area of work
    • discussing other issues pertinent to the region, agreeing how to progress these and reporting outcomes back to their sub-regions/organisations

Membership includes: One representative from each sub-region; the Chair of Yorkshire and Humber Assembly; one Fire Authority representative; Chair and Vice Chair of the Employers' Committee; political balancing place(s) if required to secure inclusive political representation from each of the three main political parties. The Executive Board meets between six and nine times per year (it does not meet in those months when the full LGYH meets).
