Sheffield Council - Andrea Aram

Andrea has extensive experience in providing caring services to children and young people in Sheffield over a period of more than forty years!

Incredibly, Andrea has worked within the same children’s home in Sheffield for the longest period we have on record. She has a broad experience of working/managing within the unique residential context and has more than established her leadership and management skills through promotion and through continuously delivering to the highest standard. She commenced her career as House Mother at one of our children’s homes on 1.11.68 and remains there today. Andrea was promoted to Senior House Mother on 27.6.72, to Principal on 10.5.82 and to Registered Home Manager on 1.6.02.

Here is one of the many examples of how Andrea has worked directly with children and young people in her care to improve their outcomes:

Andrea worked with a young person who was placed at the home just prior to his eleventh birthday. His experience of life was difficult and challenging to him and others due to complex behavioural problems related to ADHD. It was anticipated by professionals previously involved with him that he would always require living accommodation which provided day to day support. Andrea showed determination in ensuring that this young person was exposed to the same experiences and opportunities [including education and independence] as his peers, and that he was treated equally even though his specific needs might be different from others. This young person left the home and successfully moved into his own accommodation independently when he was eighteen.
