Hull Council - Campaign Make An Impact

“Campaign! Make an Impact” is a British Library led partnership project with Hull Museums and the Thackary Museum, focusing on historic and modern day campaigning. It is part of the DCMS/DCFS Strategic Commissioning Programme.  Hull Museums were approached by the British Library to be a partner coinciding with the Wilberforce 2007 commemorations.

The project worked with local media practitioners and students from Endeavour High on a contemporary campaign inspired by museum collections.  The group was a mix of British students and those with English as a second language.  Students explored the campaign for the abolition of the slave trade at Wilberforce House and exhibitions at the Ferens Art Gallery (Uncomfortable Truths - contemporary art exploring the theme of slavery, and Anne Frank + You, tackling racism and human rights).

The main outcome of the project was a thought provoking exhibition created by the students, presenting life in Hull from their differing cultural perspectives. This project makes a significant contribution to learning outcomes supporting the Council’s aims to improve Health, Learning, Earning and Safety, and to delivering Every Child Matters. It contributes to raising achievement at Key Stage 3/4 identified within the 'Children and young peoples block' (Local Area Agreement 2005/7).
