Hambleton Council - Taking Planning into the Community
In June 2008 Hambleton District Council’s year as a Beacon Authority came to an end – but it also marked the implementation of a major project designed to celebrate the authority’s commitment to
‘Promoting sustainable communities through the Planning Process’.
A key part of the work of a Beacon Council is the dissemination of its good practice to peers and the wider community, and Hambleton worked hard and proactively to maximise all possible opportunities to showcase its work as a council committed to engaging with the community to ensure a sustainable future.
But – that wasn’t enough –Hambleton was very keen to leave a legacy to mark the end of its flagship year, and one that mirrored why they had excelled in the first place – the way in which it had embraced spatial planning and aligned it to the aspirations and outputs contained in the Hambleton Strategic Partnership’s Sustainable Community Plan - and one which could help the council embrace the drivers behind the new National Indicators which measure citizen satisfaction with their environment and their potential for participation in the decision making process.
