Bradford Council - Streets Ahead

Streets Ahead is a partnership between Bradford Council, local residents, West Yorkshire Police, Probation Service, Youth Service, Housing Trusts, local schools and other community groups.

Our aim is to improve liveability standards in the 3% most deprived areas of Bradford: targets include reducing crime and the fear of crime, keeping neighbourhoods clean and tidy from refuse and delivering more activities for young people.

The Streets Ahead programme allows local community groups and residents to influence the local agenda to ensure it accurately reflects their own needs - ensuring local people have a say in how decisions are made and services delivered.

By providing additional resources, co-ordinated action and promoting joint local working, many positive changes are being brought about at a neighbourhood level.
This is evidenced by an independent BMG survey and also by feedback received from young service users:

"Who would've thought that I'd win Gold at a National Jitsu Championship? I'm so glad I joined the free Streets Ahead Ju Jitsu workshops. As well as making loads of new friends I've also discovered an amazing hobby that'll be with me for life now. It feels great being the Champ! " Luke Lightowlers
