North East Lincolnshire Council - Talking Rubbish

North East Lincolnshire Council - Talking Rubbish

A key objective of the Waste Strategy consultation was to ensure that stakeholders and partners had an awareness of the strategy and an opportunity to shape its delivery.  To do this the different audiences to be engaged were considered.

The document was recognised as technical and for some audiences would be dry and difficult to digest, so it was decided to frame the consultation in a way which would allow more informed engagement to take place. A number of different methods of contacting the various groups were adopted across the Borough and this included household door-stepping, promotions in supermarkets, focus groups, radio message campaigns and special campaigns with retailers.

The project was implemented by the Waste Strategy team and included working with the organisation WasteWatch on an intensive door-stepping campaign and focus group sessions which contacted over 7500 households. The Team worked in a supermarket and engaged with over 700 householders who completed surveys providing information on their recycling habits and what further things they would like to see happen with recycling.

We removed some of the barriers to recycling “on the doorstep” by instantly replacing missing boxes!

By “talking rubbish” with our residents we now know our strategy will deliver!
