Local Government Finance: Policy Update for Elected Members with Responsibilities for Finance and Resources in Yorkshire & Humber - Friday 10th February 2012
Purpose of the session:
The Local Government Resource Review and the Coalition Government’s current policy direction on local government finance will substantially change the way local authorities are funded – and, therefore, how they must operate - from April 2013.
This seminar will brief elected members with responsibilities for finance and resources on the key policy development areas that are likely to impact on local authority funding and service provision in the months and years to come. Time will be made available for participants to discuss and explore the potential implications on their council and also to plan the way forward.
The session will be led by LG Futures, on behalf of LGYH; and also benefit from input from the Local Government Association and local authority Leaders in Yorkshire and Humber with particular expertise or roles in the local government finance agenda.
By the end of the day, participants will be able to:
- Understand the key elements of the Local Government Resource Review and the potential long-term impact on council funding at the local level.
- Consider the implications on the Government’s intention to localise Council Tax Benefit administration.
- Consider the implications of the Future of Local Public Audit consultation, both in the short and long term.
- Consider the potential impact on the council’s Medium Term Financial Strategy of the overall policy direction of the Coalition Government on local government finance reform.
Who should attend?
This seminar FREE to attend and is designed for Finance and Resources Portfolio Holders in local authorities. It will also be relevant for Elected Members engaged in Finance and Resources Overview and Scrutiny work.
