APPG sets out the case for EU funding 'safety net' to protect growth

APPG presses the case for manufacturing and growth in Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire

The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire has met with Business Minister Michael Fallon, as well as Shadow Minister Iain Wright to press the region’s economic case for manufacturing growth. The Group heard evidence from a wide range of businesses, Local Enterprise Partnerships and Councillors from across the region, who pressed MPs on the measures needed to recognise Yorkshire and Humber once again as a Global centre for manufacturing growth and expertise.

YORbuild 4 Good Fund now open for applications

Local community groups across Yorkshire and Humber are now invited to submit applications for funding of up to £5,000 for their community projects from the YORbuild Framework 4 Good Fund. The YORbuild 4 Good Fund is one of the framework’s delivery vehicles for social and economic regeneration in the communities of framework users. To qualify for funding projects must be sustainable, locally sourced, engage small to medium enterprises (SMEs) and encourage self-sufficiency, empowerment and sustainability. More information here.

Results announced for the Making a Difference in Yorkshire and Humber Awards

Local Government Yorkshire and Humber has presented the prestigious Making a Difference in Yorkshire and Humber Awards for 2012, celebrating the workers and front line staff from councils, police, fire and national park authorities who have gone that extra mile to make a difference to the lives of local people. North East Lincolnshire Council was the big winner of the night, taking home 4 awards – including the Overall Achievement Award, dubbed the ‘Winner of Winners’.

Yorkshire & Humber hit hard by “hidden” further Council budget cuts

Local councils across the region are bracing themselves for shock new budget cuts for local services from next year, much higher than those the Government has publicly announced. Across the region councils are estimating that they may now have to deal with a massive £100 million of further cuts leaving councils hardly any time to plan for the local impacts.

Local Authorities Leaders united on securing the future of Leeds Children’s Heart Surgery Unit

Local Authority leaders, through the Local Government Yorkshire and Humber (LGYH) partnership, have again voiced their united and ongoing, cross-party concerns about the decision to close the Leeds Children’s Heart Surgery Unit. Leaders believe that the decision to close the unit is not in the best interests of the people of Yorkshire and Humber, or indeed the rest of the country, and runs counter to the NHS commitments around patient choice and ensuring better health outcomes.

Local Authorities getting 'super-charged' over electric vehicles

Local Authorties across Yorkshire & Humber have come together in Rotherham to discuss the potential for an innovative new programme which could see more services delivered using electric powered vehicles. Thought to be the only proposition of its kind in the UK, councils in the Yorkshire and Humber region are looking at how a collective approach involving funding, sustainable investment and joint purchasing power may be able to offer electric vehicles to deliver services.

Mismanaging public sector cuts could wreck a decade’s worth of job creation in Yorkshire and Humber

Up to 146,000 jobs could be lost in Yorkshire and Humber by 2017 through reductions in public expenditure but risks to the region could be minimised by allowing for greater local control, according to new research from The Work Foundation published today (18 June).

Local Government focus on high speed rail

Local Authority Leaders in Yorkshire and Humber have set out the case for high speed rail to serve Yorkshire and Humber in a letter to the Secretary of State for Transport, Lord Adonis.

Leaders believe that High Speed Rail would transform local economies across Yorkshire and Humber by bringing people and businesses within 90 minutes of London and are lobbying government to ensure that any new network links our communities with the capital.
