Mentoring Muslim Women to the Top
The Get Connected Leadership Programme for Muslim Women is an innovative programme led by the BME VCS Regional Panel Ltd and jointly funded by the Regional Improvement and Efficiency Programme and the Department of Communities and Local Government (2009-2011). The programme is aimed at equipping Muslim women in middle management positions with the skills and experience that they need to reach for the top in their organisations.
The Get Connected Programme was launched in September 2009 by the regional Minister, Rosie Winterton. During the first year, the 22 participants attended a ‘customised’ leadership programme delivered by Common Purpose in order to build confidence, ‘brand’ the programme and put in place supportive team structures necessary for future success.
In order to bridge the customised leadership training with attendance on the Common Purpose ‘open’ Leadership Programmes, the participants will be supported by mentors in consolidating their learning together with help and advice needed on their future journeys.
Briefings for Mentor’s are being held on both 17th and 18th March 2010 at Local Government Yorkshire and Humber offices in Wakefield. The programme has successfully attracted both Mentor’s and mentee’s from across the public, private, voluntary and the community sector. Thus demonstrating how much the three sector’s have in common when meeting the challenges posed both in the present and future in achieving an inclusive workforce.
