New LGYH Appointments

Local Government Yorkshire and Humber, the regional partnership of local authorities, hosted a successful Annual Conference and AGM last month at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham during which the new appointments for 2009/10 were announced.

Councillor Roger Stone, Leader of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, was confirmed as the next chair of Local Government Yorkshire and Humber taking over from Councillor Arthur Barker who has filled the seat for the last two years. Councillor Andrew Carter of Leeds City Council has been named as Vice Chair of LGYH.

Councillor Stone, who has been an elected member of the Council since 1988, said; “I have been a member of the LGYH Leaders Board for many years and am looking forward to the challenges that lay ahead in the next two years as the Chair of Local Government Yorkshire and Humber. I hope to continue and build on the admirable work of my predecessor Cllr Arthur Barker, bringing together the local authorities on issues of common purpose to further improve and develop the region. I also look forward to working with the new Vice Chair, Cllr Andrew Carter and the other members of the LGYH Leaders’ Board and the wider group of Leaders. By working together we can ensure that Yorkshire and Humber builds on its current successes and maintains its position as a leader in public service innovation and civic leadership.”
