Current Priority Activities

The link between regional and local planning has never been stronger. The RSS is a part of the development plan for an area so it is important that there is a close relationship between regional and local policy frameworks, how they are implemented and monitored. It is in the Region's interest to get Core Strategies adopted as soon as posssible. This close relationship will continue through the new IRS as this will also be a part of the development plan for an area.

The detailed implementation schedules identify some activities that need to happen in order for regional outcomes to be delivered on the ground. There are dozens of outcomes to be achieved and the Annual Monitoring Report looks at how well the Region is performing on each of these. However, in some cases monitoring and feedback from the delivery bodies themselves (e.g. Local Authorities) tell us that we need to prioritise our efforts and resources on achieving a number of key outcomes.

The current priority list of implementation priorities below was last updated following a Spatial Planning Board meeting in June 2009. This list has been developed over a number of years from the views of local authorities, regional bodies and Regional Boards as well as the performance informaton that the AMR provides. Clicking on each activity will take you to further information about what we are doing to help implement these priorities, in some cases this will be ongoing work.  Priorities with an * were agreed by Members at the July meeting of the Spatial Planning Board to require particular focus.
