Welcome to the Infrastructure Hub

This is a shared resource between Local Authorities within Yorkshire and the Humber; offering practical support, clarification and guidance to help prepare infrastructure delivery plans.

What is the Hub?

The Infrastructure Hub is the first place to look for information on how to help you prepare Infrastructure Delivery Plans (IDP).   It will help you by:

  • signposting current and emerging guidance;
  • showcasing good practice from within and beyond the region;
  • sharing key challenges and concerns that emerge from this work;
  • developing shared solutions to help address local challenges; and
  • acting as a forum to discuss and debate infrastructure issues with collegues.

An excellent place to look for information on how to do Infrastructure Delivery Plans is the Planning Advisory Service's website.   This contains a practical guide to the process of delivering an IDP (steps approach), supporting material and tools and links to good practice.  It is not the aim of this Hub to duplicate this. Instead we want to use our knowledge and that of Local Authorities who are progressing this work to build on the PAS materials.

The Hub will be supported by Local Government Yorkshire and Humber through an Infrastructure Delivery Steering Group comprised of Local Authority Officers and regional bodies.  Work on the preparation of the Integrated Regional Strategy and our liaison with infrastructure providers will also feed into the Hub.

How is the Hub Structured?

The structure of the Hub is based around 5 key themes:

Key References

  • provides a link to relevant guidance and other documents (e.g. research and studies);
  • summarises what they say about infrastructure; and
  • provides a focussed literature review i.e. you don't have to read the whole document.

Implementing the Steps Approach (step 1 through to step 7)

  • helping you get the information you need to meet the PAS guidance e.g. sharing the regional evidence base;
  • helping with the challenging recommendations from PAS e.g. training, sharing, building capacity, joint working;
  • understanding what the key bits from other references are;
  • understanding what good practice provides; and
  • providing some clarity over how many of the steps need to be done and in what level of detail.

NEW EVENT: Sustainable Economic Growth, Regeneration and Local Economic Assessments (LEAs)

Local government in Yorkshire and Humber needs to explore how we can work innovatively and build capacity to conduct robust and meaningful LEAs, which are also rooted in “real-life” economic geographies.

This workshop is intended to be the first of a series that will take place in the course of conducting LEAs during 2010, to share expertise and approaches and build capacity.
